The woman's body was found in the vicinity of the 80ft Fleet Walk car park
A murder inquiry was launched today after a woman was allegedly pushed to her death from the top deck of a multi-storey car park.
She was discovered dead on the lower levels of the 80ft Fleet Walk car park in Torquay town centre at 9pm on Thursday evening.
Detectives say witnesses heard a couple fighting shortly before the woman fell to her death.
Police said: 'The woman is believed to have fallen from the top of the multi-storey car park.
'Police are treating the death as suspicious at this time.
A 45-year-old man was quickly arrested nearby on suspicion of murder and remains in custody in Torquay at this time.
'The identity of the victim is not confirmed at this time, however it is thought that the victim and the suspect were known to each other.
'Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this inquiry.'
Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed a fight or altercation in the upper levels of the car park just before the incident.
The fall happened in the vicinity of Rock Walk and the 414 space car park in Carey Parade, Torquay, which lies near the resort's marina and harbour.
A forensic post-mortem was due to be held yesterday.
