Nigeria’s military chiefs led by chief of Defense Staff, Gen. Abayomi Olanisakin and chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ette Ibas, are presently combing the Niger Delta region under the strict directive of President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to News Express, the military officers, in the search exercise, identified 10 security threats as they combed the zone in company of the Joint Military Taskforce on Saturday, April 23, 2106.

Speaking in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, Olanisakin said the Nigerian military had resolved to deal with pipeline vandals, oil thieves and other criminals in the Niger delta region.

He spoke during a visit to the headquarters of the Joint Military Taskforce christened “Operation Pulo Shield”.

The military chiefs were conducted round by commander of the Operation Pulo Shield, Major Alani Okunlola, where Olanisakin said the visit was a directive of President Muhammadu Buhari to identify pipeline vandals, kidnappers and other threats in the region.

He said they were in Yenagoa on operational visit to Operation Pulo Shield with the aim of understanding the challenges in the area and address them to enhance their operations.

He said in doing that “we have listened to all they have said concerning the challenges and we shall go back and .address some of these challenges so that they can do their jobs much better than they have done in the past.”

He explained that following the directive of the President, the defense chiefs have identified 10 security threats in the region, which he said are a challenge to the federal government.

He told the JTF that President Buhari has given strategic directives and “we must ensure that the directives are carried out to the letter. I have come in company of the Chief of Naval Staff to also address these issues”.

He told the military officers that there is a lot of security threats in the region, saying “we have about 10 of them and we have identified all these areas from illegal bunkering to oil theft to pipeline vandalism and kidnapping and other related crimes”.
