Members of Odua Peoples Congress(OPC), at Ede, Osun State had earlier this week engaged in serious fracas over yet to be known issue, leading to the death of one Mutiu Azeez.
DAILY POST gathered that, a notorious member of the group, Taoreed Faronbi, who was recently released from prison over the murder of one Elemo, embarked on A revenge mission against those he accused of masterminding his arrest and subsequent imprisonment.
Faronbi, according to a reliable source at Ede South Local Government had mobilised some of his members, including the deceased, Mutiu Azeez, who lived at Owode-ede, to Ede South, for a revenge mission.
The source disclosed that, three members of factional OPC group, Kuranga, Wakili Doki, and Jelili Odonburi were attacked in the early hours of Tuesday.
The trio, who were said to have engaged their attackers in a fierce battle, which led to the death of Azeez were eventually overpowered and tied with ropes in anticipation of their execution.
However, members of the Vigilante group in the area who were alerted swung into action and eventually rescued the abductees.
An eye witness said Azeez’s corpse was later recovered by the police, who finally stormed the area for investigation and arrest of culprits.
Meanwhile, all efforts to get police reaction on the matter practically proved abortive, as the Police Public Relation Officer(PPRO) in the state, SP Folasade Odoro said she was in a meeting when our reporter called her on the phone, while a text message sent to her for comment was not replied at the time of filling this report.
Nevertheless, the Head of Harmonised Vigilante Group in Osun, Alhaji Rilwan Hussein Yahasalamu has confirmed the incident, describing it as very unfortunate.
Yahasalamu explained that his men rescued the three abducted OPC members, and also joined the police to make some arrests, saying the quick response of the police really saved the situation from degenerating.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, was personally on ground to douse tension and restore normalcy in the area.
