Police arraign four over alleged assault

Four persons charged with assault were on Wednesday arraigned at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The defendants of no fixed address are Janet Emechete (37), Adewale Familugba (30), Friday Emechete (42) and Samuel Familugba (65).

The prosecutor, Insp. Joseph Ebonseremen, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on August 21 at Dallimore Street in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital.

Ebonseremen said the defendants engaged one another in a public fight on the street and caused breach of public peace.

He said the offence contravened Section 83 of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Laws of Ekiti State 2012 and punishable under same.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Adesoji Adegboye, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N25, 000 each, with one surety each in like sum.

Adegboye adjourned the case till October 6.
