A woman who allegedly clubbed her husband to death with a pestle, Mrs. Chikodili Anaekwe, has been arrested by the police and is now undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti Yaba, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
P.M.NEWS investigation revealed that Chikodili had a quarrel with her husband Ifeanyi Anaekwe on Thursday at their residence at Aliu Bisiriyu Street, Ago Okota, near Isolo, Lagos.
It was learnt that when Chikodili returned home from an outing, her husband queried her and demanded an explanation about where she was coming from . The quarrel degenerated into a brawl and the woman reached for a pestle which she used to hit her husband on the head.
Anaekwe’s groans attracted neighbours who rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.
The incident was reported at Ago Okota Police Division and detectives arrested Chikodili.
The Divisional Crime Officer, DCO, DSP Ben Ossei confirmed the incident saying that after police preliminary investigation at Okota, the matter was transferred to the SCID, Panti.
Contacted, the Lagos State spokesman of the Police, Supol Joseph Jaiyeola also confirmed the incident, adding that the police are waiting for the report of the autopsy before the suspected husband killer could be charged to court.
Residents of Aliu Bisiriyu Street, Ago Okota, told P.M.NEWS that the deceased and his wife are from Anambra State, Southeast Nigeria, and were always quarrelling.
“The couple had fought themselves many times before. Neighbours were always at their apartment to settle their quarrels,” a neighbour who pleaded for anonymity told our correspondent this morning.
