Abakaliki – The Police Command in Ebonyi on Saturday paraded five suspects who allegedly vandalised communication facilities belonging to telecommunication  MTN in Abakaliki.

Mr Sylvetser Igbo, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, told newsmen that the vandals were arrested on Friday, following a tip-off from concerned member of the public.

“Around 2.30 a.m. on Friday, we received a call from a resident that vandals were operating in the area which made us to swing into action and arrested  Friday Samson, at the scene of the crime.

“He then led us to their hideout where we arrested others who escaped when the police stormed the scene.

“The names of those arrested include: Chukwudi Simon, Yobo Bawa, Ishaka Kawal, Babangida Magadi while one Shuaibu Adamu is still at large.

“A manhunt for him has commenced as we have deployed strategies to arrest him soon,” he said.

He said several gallons of stolen diesel, cutter used to cut the mast’s burglary proof and other barriers, several GSM handsets, among others were recovered.

“Investigation into the matter has commenced as we have intensify efforts to protect lives and property of people in the state.

“We also solicit for more useful information from them with the assurance of utmost confidentiality,” he said.

He, however, frowned at the attitude of some members of the public who give false information to the police.

“Most people give false information to the police to implicate others in alleged criminal acts, but the police frowns at such  attitude and would not accept this.’’

The vandals were, however, prevented from speaking to newsmen by the police. (NAN)
