APGA chieftain kidnapped in Onitsha

BY VINCENT UJUMNADU
A CHIEFTAIN of All Progerssives Grand Alliance, APGA, and Onitsha South local government chairmanship aspirant of the party, Prince Emeka Asoanya, has been kidnapped at  Fegge area of the commercial city.

He was said to have been kidnapped at about 7:00pm on Monday shortly after his party’s rally at Fegge.

His wife, Onyinye, who is heavy with pregnancy and looking visibly worried, said the kidnappers established contact with the family in the early hours of yesterday and demanded for N200 million.

His cousin, Mr Ebenezer Umezinwa, also said in Onitsha that the kidnappers had been calling the family consistently and making all sorts of comments.  He alleged that the kidnap was politically motivated.

According to him, the APGA chieftain has for sometime been receiving threat text messages from unknown quarters, who claimed that he was the brain behind their inability to secure APGA ticket for the April election.

He also claimed that another caller said Asoanya was kidnapped for fighting a certain political party in the state, adding that if he was allowed to witness the forthcoming election, he might be a stumbling block for his party.

Asoanya, popularly known as “War Machine”, served as consultant on markets to former Governor Chris Ngige.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, an Assistant Supretendent of Police (ASP), said police was aware of the incident, adding that efforts were being made to rescue him.
