A former Governor of Lagos State, Lateef Jakande, on Saturday said capturing the views of Nigerians at the grassroots would ensure the production of a strong, virile and people-oriented constitution.
Jakande spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria at the congress attended by representatives of various political parties, the organised labour, civil society organisations, youth groups, student associations, traditional rulers and religious leaders.
He said, “In any human organisation, there will be time for review of the constitution to improve the situation.
“The constitution is a project for the welfare of every citizen; therefore, occasionally, it is important to look around and see what amendments should be done,”
NAN reports that the congress held at the Odi-Olowo Local Government secretariat in Mushin began at 11:15am.
The lawmaker representing Mushin 2 Federal Constituency, Mr. Dauda Are, told journalists that the issues were being explained in vernacular to enable the constituents to make their choices.
