Unity Bank Plc has reiterated its support for the transformation of Lagos into a model mega city.
The Managing Director of the bank, Mr. Ado Wanka, said this at the bank’s Special Day on Friday at the 2012 Lagos International Trade Fair. Wanka was represented by the Regional Manager of the bank, Mrs. Yemi Adeyinka.
He said the bank was directly participating in the laudable steps being taken by the state government to make the state compete with other mega cities in the 21st Century.
He said, “It goes without saying that Unity Bank will continue to be part of the positive transformation of Lagos as demonstrated by our participation in the collection of Internally Generated Revenue on behalf of the state government, and granting credit facilities to numerous customers in Lagos for the purpose of infrastructure development.”
Wanka added that the bank had always participated in the LITF because, in terms of operational network and physical presence, Lagos remained the area where the bank has the largest number of branches in Nigeria.
According to him, this underscores the importance the bank attached to Lagos, adding that the challenge posed by transportation in the state made the bank to finance the purchase of 100 42-seater buses at a cost of $6.33m.
He said, “Unity Bank also co-financed POD of Diamond’s Nissan Sunny cabs to also ease the transportation situation in Lagos. To attract tourism, the bank also stood as a stop gap for Afrexim Bank to fund the building of African Sun Amber Residence at the cost of N250m.
