The Jamaatu Nasril Islam in Kaduna State on Monday urged the National Assembly to remove the immunity clause from the 1999 Constitution.
The JNI State Chairman, Alhaji Jaafar Makarfi, said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kaduna that its retention would continue to promote indiscipline in governance.
Makarfi noted that it was wrong of the National Assembly to determine the areas to be discussed in the constitution, saying they should have allowed Nigerians to decide.
Also speaking, the JNI Chairman, Kajuru Local Government, Alhaji Dahiru Kajuru, commended the lawmakers for allowing Nigerians to participate in the exercise.
Kajuru said the review of the constitution would strengthen Nigeria’s unity if properly handled.
He urged the assembly to properly implement the resolutions, saying that it should not be allowed to fritter away.
In his contribution, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Poverty Alleviation, Mr. Patrick Maigari, expressed concern on the hasty manner the pubic hearing was conducted without adequate enlightenment of the general public.”
Maigari told NAN that the hearing was done in a hurry.
“Nigerians were not adequately sensitised,” he said, but noted that the exercise would strengthen all arms of government and encourage accountability.
