NNPC reveals Ifeanyi Ubah’s offence that made DSS lock him up

- The NNPC asked the court in Lagos to allow it keep Ifeanyi Ubah in detention for another 14 days

- It accused the chairman of capital oil as an economic sabotage

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has revealed that Ifeanyi Ubah who is the chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Limited committed economic sabotage.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Ubah was apprehended by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the NNPC has accused him of diverting petroleum products stored in his tank farm.

Premium Times reports that the NNPC had stored tens of millions of litres of petrol at Ubah’s tank but he diverted it which led to the sack of former head of NNPC retail.

A Federal High Court in Lagos had asked the DSS to produce Ubah on May 12 and show cause why he should not be released unconditionally but the DSS filed an order before a court in Abuja seeking for an extension in the detaining of Ubah for another 14 days to complete its investigation.

Peter Okerinmodu who is the counsel to the EFCC told the court in Lagos that Ubah’s infringement was committed in Abuja and thus the Lagos court has no jurisdiction to handle the case.

Meanwhile, Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state condemned the DSS over the arrest and detention of Ubah.

Fayose lamented that: “The DSS is becoming law unto itself and dragging Nigeria back to 1984 when Decree 2 was used by the National Security Organisation (NSO) to dump Nigerians in detention without trial under flimsy excuses.”
