- Magu further lamented over the fact that individuals accused of corrupt practices try to intimidate judges by showing up with an army of SANs during trial

Ibrahim Magu, the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has declared that the Senate is refusing to confirm his appointment for “obvious reasons”, Daily Trust reports.

In an interview with the publication, the EFCC boss also urged all Nigerians to join the fight against corruption because everyone’s input was needed.

He stated that he wants “everybody to join the fight against corruption, whether in law enforcement or not, because we need everybody on ground.

He further stated: "Nobody has the monopoly of knowledge in fighting corruption, I emphasize that.”

The EFCC boss also made an appeal to the various university Vice-Chancellors to create a course unit to emphasize anti-corruption.

He stated: “We will also appeal to them to create a course unit to emphasize anti-corruption, whether you are in sciences or the arts so that every youngster will grow with that in mind.

“It would help in wiping out corruption in its own way.”

Magu was asked what could be done to hasten prosecution cases against alleged corrupt individuals to which he replied: “Mine stops at investigating and taking the matter to court, and providing the essential evidence and witnesses.

“I have very young officers who go to court and face a lot of SANs.

“There’s a case during which we had about 31 SANs against one small boy lawyer who is just ten years into the profession.

“Why should somebody carry so many SANs to court, and use all type of language to intimidate the judges?”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami (SAN), insisted that only President Muhammadu Buhari has the utmost power to determine the fate of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Ibrahim Magu.

Magu has been rejected twice by the senate for confirmation as the EFFC's substantive Chairman following a damming report against him by the DSS.
