Operation Python Dance: Amidst tense situation, Abia governor extends curfew





- The curfew imposed in Aba, Abia state, following the clashes between IPOB members and soldiers carrying out their Operation Python Dance campaign, has been extended till Friday by the state governor

- Governor Okezie Ikpeazu called on residents to work together with security agents to maintain law and order

- The governor however asked security agents to stop forcing resident to put up their hands as they pass through check-points

Okezie Ikpeazu, the governor of Abia state, has extended the curfew imposed on Aba, the state's commercial nerve center, from Thursday to Friday, September 15, 2017, Punch reports.

The governor made the new development known in a statement released via his Chief Press Secretary, Enyinnaya Appolos.

NAIJ.com gathers that Ikpeazu urged residents to work together with security agents to maintain law and order in Aba.

However, the governor expressed displeasure over news that while going through security checkpoints, residents were forced to raise their hands.

He asked security agents to discontinue all such acts immediately.

Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, the governor of Abia state, declared a three-day curfew in Aba, a commercial city in the state, following altercations between the Army and members of IPOB.

The Operation Python Dance II campaign launched by the Army in the state, had raised tensions with some Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) youths who were against the operation.
