Ozubulu gunmen attack: 8 victims still in NAUTH Nnewi —CMD

Nnewi—Chief Medical Director, CMD, of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital NAUTH, Nnewi, Prof. Anthony Igwegbe, yesterday said that of the 26 victims of St Philips Catholic Church Ozubulu attack  by gunmen who were admitted, only eight victims are still receiving treatment in the hospital.

Prof Igwegbe spoke  in an interview shortly after the opening ceremony of the ongoing four-day Service Compact With All Nigerians, SAVICOM, training at NAUTH Nnewi.

He said: “About eight are still in the hospital because they have bone injuries and it takes time to heal. Some had gone for first surgery and some need a second surgery, while others have large infected wounds that are taking some time to heal. We are glad that we have not lost any other person since that time, we are managing them perfectly.

“Some have been going home quietly, and the remaining cases are what the hospital can handle. There is no need to take them abroad for further treatment, because we are equal to the challenge. None of them is beyond our capability and the facilities are here, and I am happy that we are able to put our acts together and manage them effectively.”

Earlier in his opening address during the SERVICOM training, the CMD said: “While recognizing that the institution was appreciated for the team work and the attitude workers exhibited when the victims of St Philips Catholic Church Ozubulu were brought to the hospital, there is need to continue to improve our services to the patients, that is why we are organising this SERVICOM training.”

“The 4 day ongoing SERVICOM Training in the institution, is also to bring the workers back to effective health service delivery, having noticed a little slide from the workers, it became very imperative that we need to be reenergized by having a retreat and then come back to move on further.

“Not that we are not doing well, but we want to do better, that is why the training become necessary for the workers especially, the Departmental    and Units Heads of the hospital, from time to time, just as you go to Church to get spiritual upliftment as often as possible, and rededicate yourself to duty.”

Chief Executive and National Coordination SERVICOM, Abuja, Mrs. Nnenna Akajimeli in her good will message told the workers that they will built a legacy for themselves if they do their work diligently, and urged them not to be people who wait for when things start happening before they make their own input, but be people who start initiate things.

In a address presented by the NAUTH SERVICOM Nodal Officer, Comrade Kris Ngige, said “NAUTH SERVICOM thrust anchors on the implementation of Federal Governments service delivery initiative of prompt, efficient, effective, affordable, honest, professional and transparent services to the citizens”
