GOVERNOR Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, yesterday, commenced an appreciation tour of the 18 local councils of the state for his victory in the September 28, 2016 governorship election, vowing that his administration will prioritize the problems being faced by the electorate at the grassroots.
With his Deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, the governor started the tour at Ovia North East and Oredo. During the tour, the governor and his deputy will meet with the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other government appointees from the Local Governments.
Obaseki, who addressed the crowd at Okada, said the tour will afford him the opportunity to assess ongoing projects in the council and hear from the people what infrastructures they lack to enable government prioritize projects that will affect the lives of the people, positively.
His words: “I am here today to thank you for ensuring victory for the APC in the last election. Without all of you I would not have become governor of Edo State and I quite appreciate that. Like I promised during my campaign, my administration intends to return power to the people and that is what we are doing because all of us are important.”
“This tour will afford me the opportunity to access the level of work done so far in every area by my government and to also know what is remaining to be done and what the people at the grassroots want from government. We will soon start the renovation and improvement of facilities in our schools but once this is done I want our people in the communities to ensure they are protected.
“Our special assistants are expected to send monthly reports to government to furnish government directly about issues relating to the communities that will help government in the formulation of its policies.”
The governor further announced the sum of N1milllion as cash reward for Oluku ward for recording the highest number of votes cast in Ovia North East while Utoka ward got N500,000 for recording the highest percentage of victory in the Local Government.
