Why Delta govt increased DELSU’s acceptance fees, by Atigogo

By Perez Brisibe

ABRAKA—THE Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Special Duties, Joshua Atigogo, weekend, gave reasons for the increment of acceptance fees in Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka. He said the decision was based on economic realities of the time and the need to continually improve on the academic standards of the institution.

Atigogo also allayed fears that the state government has increased tuition fees in the university, stressing that there are no plans by government or the university authorities to increase tuition fees in the university.

Assuring Deltans of government’s commitment to ensuring the academic standards of the institution is maintained, Atigogo said: “Delta State government is committed to increasing academic standards in Delta State University viz-a-viz provision of adequate infrastructure and conducive learning environment.

“The decision to increase the acceptance fees for new intake for professional courses was done taking into consideration the economic realities of the time.”

Despite the increment in acceptance fees for professional courses, the fees for studying at the Delta State University still remains much lower than that of other state universities, and it is the intention of the state government to continue to make learning in the state-owned institution much more affordable.

“The state government would like to use this medium to sue for calm and cooperation of all stakeholders as government and the university authorities are working hard to ensure that all students of the institution get the desired academic standards the institution offers.”
