ILORIN—Miss Taofiqah Oloriegbe of Faculty of Engineering, University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, billed to graduate as a Second Class Upper student in the forthcoming 33rd convocation of the institution, has died three days to her graduation.
Contacted, UNILORIN’s Deputy Director of Information, Mr. Kunle Akogun, confirmed the incident, saying “we are already aware of the tragedy. But we do not have all the details yet. As soon as we have the details, I will let you know.”
The immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Abdulganiy Ambali, last Friday in his valedictory statement, while announcing the commencement of the graduation ceremony, gave a clue to the profile and academic achievements of late Miss Taofiqah Oloriegbe.
The deceased, Vanguard gathered, was reported dead after a sudden brief illness in her family compound in Alore area of Ilorin.
It was gathered that the news of her death broke via a Facebook post of a family friend of the deceased.
The Facebook post, obtained by journalists in Ilorin yesterday, read: “Subhanallah: What a sudden and untimely death of a rare gem! She’s Taofeeqah Oloriegbe, a sister to my friend Dammy Oloriegbe.
“Being one of the best yet-to-be announced graduating students of engineering and few days to her convocation, she left this sinful world after a brief illness.
“May Allah grant her eternal rest with His pious servants and grant the families the fortitude to bear the loss.”
Meanwhile, when Vanguard visited the deceased’s family house at Alore yesterday, the family and neighbours were in pensive mood, as many were seen in groups, discussing the incident.
