This was even as Delta State emerged overall winner of the 2017 edition of the NNPC National Quiz Competition.

Speaking at the grand finale of the competition, Group Managing Director of the corporation, Mr. Maikanti Baru, said despite the activities of insurgents in the region, the North-East states were included in the programme and they competed fairly.

The North-East states were represented by Adamawa, Borno and Taraba. The states were among the 18 that made it to the grand finale.

The competition, which had its preliminary stages across all the 774 local government areas and later moved to states and regional levels, saw Isioma Ifeanyichukwu of Federal Government College, Warri, Delta State, beating 17 other finalists, representing 17 states of the federation.

Ifeanyichukwu will be the first beneficiary of the upgraded prize system, a scholarship award of N300,000 per session throughout the period of his tertiary education.

Abia State, represented by Benjamin Chinueze of Dority International Secondary School, Aba, emerged the first runner-up, while Ondo State, represented by Akingbulugbe Oluwatobiloba of Hallmark Secondary School, Ondo, emerged the second runner-up.
