THE All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, on Friday, issued a two-week ultimatum to the police and Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest and prosecute a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, over a video purportedly showing how it (APC) rigged last year’s governorship election in the state.
Fani-Kayode, who is the Director of Media and Publicity of Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation, had, on Thursday, in Lagos, appeared on a television programme claiming that the August 9 election in Osun State was rigged in favour of Governor Rauf Aregbesola with a video purportedly showing some people thumbprinting ballot papers.
But at a press conference in Osogbo, on Friday, the state chairman of APC, Prince Gboyega Famodun, demanded an apology from Fani-Kayode, saying that the video was fabricated with the intent of maligning the image of the party.
The party threatened to institute a suit against Fani-Kayode if he fails to apologise, within two weeks, for telling lies against it.
The APC chairman said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would have used the video to prosecute their case at the election tribunal if Fani-Kayode’s claims were genuine.
According to Famodun, the PDP plotted to use the video to deceive Nigerians, saying that the APC in the state would not allow any individual or party to drag its image in the mud.
“APC is demanding for an independent judicial commission of inquiry into the entire process leading to the Osun election. We demand an exposition of all that happened two weeks to the election, the night before the election and on the day of the election up to the announcement of election result the following morning.”
