THE Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese, Most Rev. Anthony Obinna, has called on the killers of late Rev. Fr. Dr. Dennis Osuagwu to confess to the crime or face divine vengeance.
Obinna, who condemned the gruesome murder of the Obowo-born Catholic priest, frowned on incessant killings in the society.
Late Osuagwu, a lecturer at the Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, in Ohaji/Egbema Council Area of the state was murdered by yet-to-be identified assassins in a bush path along Avu-Nekede road while going to school.
The prelate gave the warning while declaring open the 2015 Odenigbo Lecture at Maria Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri, stating that the killers would be left in the hands of God Almighty, who the deceased served while alive should they fail to confess within a time limit.
He said the hoodlums would be punished according to their deeds, adding that it was a disheartening and irreparable incident to the Catholic community and the Osuagwu family.
“God’s wrath is unstoppable when it begins. How can a country that is naturally blessed by God be in a mess? Our leaders are not helping matters either.
“In Nigeria, the rich get richer and the poor, poorer. Where are we going from here? How would the future look like if nothing is done now to correct these ills,” Obinna queried.
He said public office holders should subject themselves to open debates and criticisms as should be applicable in a democratic setting rather than being protected with guns by the security operatives.
