LAGOS (AFP) – Top Nigerian club Shooting Stars of Ibadan announced on Monday that they have suspended coach Festus Allen until further notice after a poor run in the country’s league.
“I have been told to step down. I will just take a break and wait for what happens after this directive,” said Allen.
On Sunday, Shooting Stars lost their third straight game in the league at Kaduna United.
They are now 18th in the 20-team championship with 17 points from 16 matches.
Shooting Stars official Ade Somefun said Allen’s assistants, Tunde Odubola and Busari Akeem, will take charge of the team for Thursday’s home game against Kwara United.
Somefun said the club management plan to meet to take a final decision on Allen, who was hired at the start of the new season in November after guiding unheralded Bukola Babes through a first season in the top flight.
