Zanu-PF factions pledge to work together

FEUDING Zanu-PF camps in Bulawayo province yesterday claimed they had closed ranks and pledged to jointly mobilise more than 100 000 potential voters to register and vote for the ruling party in next year's harmonised elections.

Provincial chairperson, Dennis Ndlovu, told Southern Eye yesterday that "common sense" has now prevailed, with feuding camps closing ranks to mobilise party supporters to register to vote.

"We are doing well as a province, we are now united, there is no noise as everyone is seized with working on the programme of voter registration," he said.

"We are busy to ensure that we register as many people as possible to ensure we retain our seats and win others in the 2018 elections."

The pledge comes hardly two weeks before President Robert Mugabe lands in the city for his provincial youth interface rallies. The rally is scheduled to be held at White City Stadium this monthend.

Zanu-PF intra-party fighting had become rife in the ruling party's Bulawayo province, where on two occasions between March and May this year, rival camps engaged in bloddy clashes at the party's Davies Hall offices culminating in the arrest of dozens of party supporters.

Bulawayo has not been a good hunting ground for the ruling party since the formation of the MDC in 1999, with the opposition sweeping the seats in successive elections since.

In the 2013 elections President Mugabe got a paltry 31 773 votes against MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai who polled 100 648 in Bulawayo.
