Mark Clattenburg says Gary Cahill was wrongly sent off against Burnley

Former Premier League referee, Mark Clattenburg, has said that Chelsea captain Gary Cahill, was “unlucky” to be sent off in their 3-2 loss to Burnley on Saturday.

Cahill was shown a straight red card by referee Craig Pawson, after he lunged into Steven Defour.

Speaking on BT Sport, Clattenburg claimed Cahill was unfortunate to see red.

“I think Gary Cahill is very unlucky.

“He’s dribbling with the ball and he’s lunged but there is very little impact on the defender’s leg.

“You can clearly see the studs didn’t impact on the defender’s leg so he’s very unlucky.

“And I think a yellow card would have been a better solution,” he said.
