2019: Don’t hesitate to expose me of any compromise – Osun REC tells electorate

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner for Osun State, Mr. Segun Agbaje, has reiterated the commitment of the commission to conduct credible election in the state, as he called on electorate to expose any of his staff found wanting of misconduct, including himself.

He explained that the commission was working assiduously to provide conducive environment for free and fair election, adding that all electoral devices, especially Smart Card Readers have been made to function optimally without disappointment .

Agbaje made the statement while speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting held at INEC headquarters, Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Monday.

He implored politicians to strictly adhere to democratic rules that guide electoral process, saying nothing whatsoever should make them desperate to the extent of truncating the electoral process for selfish considerations.

He, however, disclosed that over 16,000 ad-hoc staff have been recruited and trained to cover the 3,010 polling units inZ the state, noted that 1,260,748 Permanent Voters’ Cards have been collected, leaving 419,182 PVCs uncollected.

Meanwhile, the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Mrs. Abiodun Ige, has vowed to provide hitch-free atmosphere for electorate to exercise their civic responsibilities.

She said the police was on ground to nip any act of criminality that is capable of disrupting elections in the bud through robust intelligence gathering mechanism of covert and overt dimension.

The state Coordinator of National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, Mr. Emmanuel Attah, in his address implored every political stakeholder to jealously protect corps members and ensure their safety at all times.

He recalled how some corps members were held hostage for refusing to compromise electoral process, describing it as unacceptable.

He then warned against such intimidation, as he vowed to protect corps members in the state with great vigour.
