Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted two Catholic priests in Ondo State.

The priest identified as Rev. Father Felix Efobi and Rev. Father Joseph Nweke were kidnapped on their way to Akure, the state capital for a wedding ceremony.

The incident was said to have happened at Elegbeka in Ose Local Government Area of the state while they were on their way from Anambra State.

It was gathered that the priests from Awka Catholic Diocese were kidnapped on Friday along Owo-Benin highway.

A source said, “The two catholic priests were coming from Awka Diocese for a wedding ceremony in Akure, and were kidnapped around Ajagbale, Elegbeka axis yesterday ( Friday).

“Some of the bridal trains were coming in convoy with the reverend fathers, only the cars carrying the priests were stopped by the suspected kidnappers and they dragged them out of the car and took them to an unknown destination.

“They didn’t even disturb others. Their phones were not even collected, they just kidnapped the priests and left others.”

Confirming the incident, the Director of Media and Communications of the Ondo Catholic Diocese, Rev. Father Leo Aregbesaola, who confirmed the incident said the church had been searching for the victims.

“Rev. Father Amadi posted the incident on our page and he said efforts were ongoing to look for them,” he stated.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Command, Mr. Femi Joseph said he was not aware of the development.

“I will try and verify, but for now, I am not aware,” the PPRO said.
