Childrens Day: Ikpeazu extols Abia children, calls for adherence to govt’s measures against COVID-19

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has extolled Abia children and expressed deep delight that they have consistently made the State proud with their sterling performance in external examinations over the last four years.

The Governor, in a congratulatory message contained in a press release issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka, to mark the Children’s Day celebration, assured Abia Children of his administration’s commitment in providing the best environment for their development and growth.

He tasked them to rise to the challenges of the new world order occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic which according to the Governor, has altered the way we live.

Ikpeazu restated that his administration is already prepared for these challenges especially as it affects how our children study.

Ikpeazu added, “Our Radio Classroom initiative is one of our responses to bridge knowledge gaps even as schools remain closed. Our children must rise to this challenge by updating their knowledge of e-learning platforms. This is the way the world will move, going forward. We must be ready or we stand the risk of being left behind”.

He asked the children to assist their parents at this difficult period especially as it relates to the observance of all public health protocols like social distancing, wearing of face masks, regular hand washing and the use of sanitizers.

He assured that his administration was concerned about the current schools and assured that the situation is being reviewed periodically.

The Governor further stated that the government will make the best decision in the circumstance and make the safety of the children a top priority.

Meanwhile, our correspondent who took a tour of various school playgrounds and the township stadium noted the obvious absence of children, as there was no fun fare which often characterized the children’s day celebration.
