Insecurity: Biafran agitation impeding establishment of Southeast regional security outfit – Ohanaeze
An Igbo socio-cultural youth organization, Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, has decried the challenges impeding the establishment of Southeast Regional Security outfit ‘Ogbunigwe’, designed to check security issues facing the zone.
This is coming barely a few days after the South-East zone had on Sunday, declared that it would not implement the community policing template rolled out by the police hierarchy.
In a communiqué presented by the zone after an enlarged meeting in Enugu and read by the chairman of Southeast Govs Forum and Ebonyi State Governor, Chief David Umahi, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Adamu Abubakar was accused of going contrary to the earlier agreement reached on the matter.
But, Ohanaeze youth, attributed the inability of the geopolitical zone to achieve a common regional security outfit, to efforts of enemies of Ndigbo and the fear of Biafran agitators being recruited as the foot soldiers of the proposed ‘Ogbunigwe’ security outfit.
“There is a continuous attempt by political musketeers and Igbo external oppressors to blackmail and intimidate the South-East Governors over their fearless stance on the establishment of a Southeast Regional Security outfit, Ogbunigwe after their last meeting, “It claimed.
OYC, in a press release signed by, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Okwu Nnabuike, on Thursday, also challenged the Dave Umahi-led South-East Governors Forum to respect and protect the aspirations of Igbos by accelerating moves to establish the regional security to tackle the influx of Almajiris into Igbo communities.
Ohanaeze Youth said it would mobilize and volunteer one thousand youths for the commencement of the regional security outfit.
