Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes, has revealed the football club he almost joined before sealing a transfer move to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.
The Portuguese international said prior to joining Man United last January transfer window, he had the chance to join Tottenham Hotspur under their former manager, Mauricio Pochettino in 2019.
According to Fernandes, Tottenham was desperate to sign him before his move to the Red Devils, adding that Spurs were unwilling to meet Sporting Lisbon’s asking price.
“The first club that was close to signing me was Tottenham,” He said on Instagram Live.
“With Pochettino…But I don’t know, maybe they thought the amount Sporting wanted, was too much so in that moment Sporting decided they don’t want to sell.
“Tottenham came in the summer, but Manchester United was in January. Maybe Tottenham came again in January, but when I knew Manchester was interested, I just wanted to talk to Manchester.
“Manchester was my dream team in England, so I am happy because I have the chance to go to a team that I always [dreamed about] you know.
“At that time [last summer] it was Tottenham that was closer to me.”
Fernandes will now hope to continue his brilliant form for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side once the Premier League resume on June 17 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
