Part-time commissioners can’t achieve much- Former Attorney General cautions Emmanuel Udom

Former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Akwa Ibom State, Chief Victor Iyanam had told Governor Udom Emmanuel to rejig his cabinet and appoint full-time Commissioners who would help to actualise his completion agenda

The State Former Attorney General stated this in an interview on Wednesday while reacting to the current state of affairs in the Ministries of Works, Agriculture and Women Affairs in the state.

Recall that following the sack of the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Uduak Udoinyang, a cabinet reshuffle saw the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Glory Edet overseeing the ministry of Agriculture.

The recent appointment of the erstwhile Commissioner for Works as Chief of Staff to Governor Udom Emmanuel also left a vacuum in the state Ministry of Works as a substantive Commissioner is yet to be appointed into the ministry, thereby leaving the Ministry under the supervision of the already busy Chief of Staff,

Reacting to the current situation, Iyanam faulted that the state would not experience expected development with just a few men overburdened with responsibilities that ought to have been shared.

Iyanam opined that if it was difficult for the ministries of Works, Agriculture and Women Affairs to function optimally under substantive and dedicated Commissioners, then those on part-time may have a tough time meeting Governor Emmanuel’s completion agenda.

He advised the Governor to look into the state and bring out qualified sons and daughters of the State to exclusively run the affairs of the affected ministries.

His words, “The schedule for those ministries will suffer. Look at what is happening to our construction sites, uncompleted projects all over the state. Go to the third ring road, behind the Osong Ama, nothing is happening there. Driving around the state, there are very many uncompleted projects. That was even as we had a substantive Works Commissioner, what would happen now that he is on part-time?”.

“The responsibility of a Chief of State is huge and he must constantly be with the governor, he cannot shuttle these two very demanding work schedules. That ministry will suffer.
