The National Economic Council (NEC) says 15 states will benefit from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) funding for education.

The fund is part of measures to cushion the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the sector.

Kaduna Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, announced the states when he briefed State House correspondents after Thursday’s virtual NEC meeting.

They Abia, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Ebonyi, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Kano, Nassarawa, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto and Zamfara.

The governor said the states met two of the three criteria set.

The GPE funding is a grant from the World Bank and other donors.

El-Rufai disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Education presented to NEC, how the education of Nigerian students in the COVID-19 era could continue.

He assured the federal and state governments were working towards ensuring a safe opening up of the educational system.
