China steps up 5G network, builds 600,000 base stations

China is investing heavily in the 5th generation (5G) mobile network despite fears in some parts of the world.

DAILY POST reports that there have been conspiracy theories about the new global wireless standard.

5G is designed to connect virtually everyone and everything together including machines, objects, and devices.

China has now built over 600,000 5G base stations.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) made the disclosure.

The number of connected devices on the network in the country has exceeded 150 million.

“In the next three years, China will be at the introduction stage of 5G development, so it is necessary to make proactive moves in construction,” Xinhua quoted Wen Ku, an MIIT official.

Liu Duo, Head, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, said as the number of 5G users increase, innovative services related to 5G will grow substantially.
