Apga Suspends Rochas Okorocha

Barely three weeks after Chief Rochas Okorocha defected to the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and declared his intention to contest the 2011 governorship election in Imo State under its banner, the Party has suspended him indefinitely on grounds of allegations of gross misconduct.

On Monday this week, Rochas was reported to have stormed the Imo State Secretariat of APGA where he was reported to have unleashed dozens of thugs who beat up several top officers of the Party in the state while the Woman leader was said to have escaped from one of the windows of the secretariat from the rampaging mob.

According to a letter signed by the Imo State Chairman and Secretary of APGA Prince C. C Nwaka and Chief Mike Nwachukwu respectively and addressed to Rochas and made available to newsmen after being delivered to him on Wednesday, the Party said Rochas is no longer a member of APGA until full investigation is concluded on the matter. It also said that the matter has been officially reported to the Police and other security agencies in the state as well as the National Secretariat of APGA.

The letter with the title “SUSPENSION FROM ALL PROGRESSIVES GRAND ALLIANCE [APGA]” reads in part “the Imo State Working Committee of the Party, at an emergency meeting Tuesday said after deliberating on the “ugly incident which took place at the State Party Office at No. 107b Wetheral Rd, Owerri, yesterday, Monday, 20th December 2010 during which you not only verbally assaulted the Chairman of the Party but also boasted that you would have killed the State Secretary of the Party, Mr. Mike Nwachukwu and taken his body away in the booth of your car had he been present at the Party Office at the time. Following the spirit of your threats, the thugs you brought along with you to the Party Office, at your instance, physically attacked and brutalized the Owerri Zonal Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Party, Dr. David Iwuagwu while one of the men who came with you and who you introduced as an ‘aspirant’ threatened to kill the Chairman of the Party, with his finger aggressively pointing at him, if for any reason,he fails to secure the ticket of the Party”

“In view of the seriousness of your conduct and relying on Article 19.3 of the Constitution of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, the State Working Committee resolved to suspend you from the Party. You are hereby suspended from the Party with immediate effect pending a full investigation of your conduct by the Party. As a consequence of your suspension from the Party, you are, with immediate effect, barred from all Party designated areas and from all the activities of the Party until further notice.”
