By Onozure Dania

A 76-year-old former defence attaché to the United Nations and a retired Colonel, Chief Alao Dauda, slumped at Ilaro Prisons, Ogun State, a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ilaro, Ogun State, has been told.

According to a medical report from the State Hospital, Ilaro, signed by a medical officer, Dr. O. B. Oni, attached to his bail application, the retired Colonel suffered from difficulty in walking with his legs, chest pain, difficulty in breathing and abnormal posture.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, DPP, in the state has told the court that the Dauda, alongside others, have a case to answer.

The DPP, in its advice dated November 6, by the Assistant Chief State Counsel, Mrs. O. Odusote, insisted that the case file reveals a prima facie case of conspiracy to murder and murder contrary to Sections 324 and 319 of the Criminal Code Law.

Prior to the issuance of the DPP’s advice, the retire Colonel had raised the alarm that as a result of his refusal to install the younger brother of the late Olowo of Owoland, Oba Patrick Fasinu, as the successor of the late monarch, he was dragged into a murder charge.

Chief Dauda, who is the Lisa of Owoland in Yewa, Ogun State, also insisted that the responsibility of installing a new monarch in the community lies with the Lisa.

According to an application for bail by his lawyer, Wale Ajayi, the retired Colonel said he has been on admission before his arrest, detention and subsequent arraignment in court on September 19.

While denying the murder allegation levelled against him, Dauda said when searches were conducted on his residence, nothing was found.

Hearing on the bail application has been adjourned until today.
