YENEGOA—THE Federal Government has documented fresh 7,000 repentant agitators and 13,000 local refinery operators from Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta and Ondo states for inclusion on the Expanded Presidential Amnesty Programme, E-PAP, for Niger Delta agitators.
Coordinating Consultant to the Federal Government, E-PAP, and Senior Special Assistant to the Bayelsa State Governor on General Duties, Mr. Hendrick Opukeme, disclosed this in a statement, yesterday.
He said the Federal Government had also commenced, in principle, the process of disarmament, demobilization and reintegration of the agitators.
“Between August and the present day, my office has in collaboration with the Department of Security Services, DSS, having been mandated by the Federal Government, documented willing and repentant agitators from all the Niger Delta states, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta and Ondo. In all, 7,000 Niger Delta agitators and 13,000 local refinery operators have been documented by the Federal Government in collaboration with my office,” he asserted.
Opukeme further disclosed, “A high-powered Federal Committee, including the DSS, Military, Police, United Nations, ECOWAS and all Niger Delta state governments is being put together for the commencement of the verification exercise, which is billed to take place in the states of Niger Delta.”
