GOVERNOR Godwin Obaseki of Edo state yesterday witnessed the parading of 104 suspected armed robbers and kidnappers including the killers of Professor Paul Otasowie, a lecturer at the faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, in the University of Benin ((UNIBEN).

The killers of the Professors confessed that their plan was to steal his Highlander jeep which according to them they planned to use for robbery but unfortunately, ¨ he attacked one of us who held a gun and the gun exploded in his stomach.

Obaseki who used the opportunity to inspect facilities at the command, said the state government was collaborating with the Department of State Security (DSS), the Police and the Army to unveil a new security architecture for the state December 1, 2017, declaring that the state government will ensure that both residents of the state and investors are protected.

Some of the items recovered from the suspects include 33 cut to size guns, 90 live Ak47 ammunitions, 234 car-tridges, five AK47 guns, short guns, charms and other dangerous items and N1.2 million.

The suspects were paraded by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Babatunde Kokumo.

Obaseki who spoke to journalists, said ¨as a government we have always placed priority on security, law and order, and you are all witnesses to the security situation in Edo state and the efforts this government made to improve the operational capabilities of the police Command in Edo state and that has resulted to us having a new police commissioner in Edo state.

¨We have been having consultations with the police, DSS and the military. We are working on a new security architecture in Edo state. We expect that by December 1, it will be unveiled. This inspection on the facilities in the police command is to see the state of their operations with a view of understanding the amount of support we need to give them so they can take off with the new security arrangement¨.
