By Perez Brisibe
A gang of suspected kidnappers who abducted a crane operator and an engineer attached to an oil servicing firm, S & A company with operations at Oteghele community of Warri South council area of Delta State have demanded a ransom of N40million for the release of the victims. The victims both of whom have spent  eight days in captivity, were kidnapped at the site of the company by the hoodlums who invaded their operational base amidst sporadic gunshots and whisked them to an unknown location. Contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka said “the matter is yet to be formally reported at the respective police divsions in the area, hence I have no information on the incident.” Though the chief security office of the company, Ufuoma Bright when contacted, declined comment on the incident, a relative to the crane operator told SaturdayVanguard that the hoodlums are using the phones of the victims to contact family members with a demand for ransom.

However, an agent to the company where the victims work, Mr. Chison Umukoro who confirmed the abduction, explained that the company was doing all within its power towards ensuring that the victims were released unhurt. The family source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “Initially, we didn’t know he (crane operator) was kidnapped as he didn’t return home on the day he was kidnapped, only to receive a call from him asking us to go to his office and ask the management of his whereabout.

“They had initially demanded a ransom of N500 million but have reduced it to N40million before they would be released.”
