FG flags off SADTS in Delta

ASABA-THE Federal Government has Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme, SADTS as part of effort towards placing agriculture at par with other major profitable businesses across the country.

The move according to the Director General, National Directorate of Employment, Dr. Nasiru Landa, was a key, to long term economic growth and security that would allow adequate utilization of the value chain approach for effectiveness.

Flagging off SADTS organised by the Rural Employment Promotion, REP Department of the National Directorate of Employment, NDE in Asaba, Delta State Nasiru said the scheme would open opportunities for youths to embrace agriculture as a business, earn income as well as create mass employment.

The NDE boss who was represented by NDE South-South geopolitical zone, Acting Director, Mr Edem Duke said Delta State was one of the 19 states carefully selected as pilot test for the scheme across the six geopolitical zones of the country.

Earlier, Delta State Coordinator of the NDE, Mr Francis Aninye disclosed that 30 unemployed persons were to be trained in each state, explaining that the training would last for four months with two weeks set aside for experimental training in both livestock and crops farming while the remaining period would be for production exercise on experimental farms that would be selected in each state.

Meanwhile, Delta State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Austin Chikezie, who also spoke at the ceremony, stressed the need for a partnership between the State and Federal Government.

He encouraged the participants to take the programme serious, adding that he was once a beneficiary of the programme.
