Chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, and one of its presidential hopeful in 2019, Chief Charles Udeogaranya, yesterday, joined Nigerians of different political divides in mourning the demise of Dr. Alex Ekwueme.

He said: “Dr. Alex Ekwueme was the creator of the current six geo-political zones of Nigeria. Had late Head of State, Gen Sani Abacha, listened to him, Nigeria would have been restructured over 20 years ago and all the zones in Nigeria would have produced presidents and then move on to an advanced democracy with his idea of the rotational presidency and regional prime ministers.

“I personally remember when we had an event at Unizik, he was in Abuja and I was in Awka to receive him and was hoping he would charter a flight  to Enugu. But to my greatest surprise, Ide Aguata arrived the venue by road in his pink colour Mercedes Benz car with just his driver and an orderly. That simplicity and humility expressed by him were just who he was.”

Also yesterday, Coalition of Civil Society Organisations of Nigeria, COSCON,  lamented the demise of the former Vice President.

President of the group, Chuks Ibegbu, noted that Ndigbo and Nigeria have lost a great personality and a statesman of immense proportion. He called for a state burial and honour for the statesman.

COSCON also lambasted the attitude of the Federal Government over  the death of 25 young Nigerian girls at the Mediterranean Sea, killed by Libyan and Egyptian criminals  and traffickers and dumped in  the sea.
