Breaking: One feared dead as Adamawa records first Lassa fever outbreak

- Adamawa state has recorded its first Lassa fever outbreak

- The victim of the outbreak, Gabriel Ambe, has been pronounced dead

- The commissioner of health in the state, Fatima Abubakar, and other officials have begun a crucial meeting over this outbreak

First Lassa fever case has been recorded in Adamawa, with a victim, Gabriel Ambe, pronounced dead.

The outbreak was confirmed on Monday, April 16, by the head of the state's rapid response team, Batulu Mohammed, Premium Times reports.

NAIJ.com notes that Fatima Abubakar, the commissioner of health, and other officials have begun a crucial meeting over the outbreak.

Recall that a medical practitioner died in FMC Umuahia, Abia state, after reportedly coming in contact with a Lassa Fever patient.

The commissioner for information in Abia, John Okiyi, confirmed the outbreak of the deadly Lassa Fever at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Umuahia.

Okiyi, who made the disclosure in a statement in Umuahia on Monday, April 2, said the government and the hospital management had swung into action to check the spread of the disease.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Ebonyi state government on Monday, January 15, confirmed that three persons died of Lassa fever.

Daniel Umezuruike, the commissioner for health in Ebonyi state made this known at a press briefing recently.

The commissioner noted that two of deceased were medical practitioners.
