Reports have emerged that gunmen reportedly dressed in police and Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) uniform have allegedly opened fire on a convoy of Senator Dino Melaye in Ayetoro-Gbede, Ijumu local government area of Kogi state.
The Tribune reports that the gunmen reportedly attacked the senator on his way from Yagba axis of the district where he had gone to inaugurate some projects.

The newspaper citing account from eyewitnesses, reports that the gunmen had barricaded the road from Mopamuro to Ayetoro with six Hilux vehicles belonging to the police and the joint task force.

Reports have it that as soon as the Melaye’s convoy approached the barricade, the gunmen opened fire on the black G Wagon Mercedes Benz conveying the senator.
The development was said to have led to pandemonium in the community as the people in the convoy allegedly abandoned their vehicles and scampered for safety.
Speaking on the incident, the special assistant the senator on media, Gideon Ayodele, said the convoy was attacked by security operatives that barricaded the road with their vehicles and rained bullets on the vehicle occupied by the senator.

The said attack on Melaye comes days after hoodlums reportedly burnt down new classrooms built by the senator and donated to a secondary school in Sarkin Noma, Lokoja, Kogi state.
NAIJ.com gathered that the school buildings, Governor Girls Secondary school, Sarkin Noma and Lokongoma Secondary School in Kogi state were part of the senator's constituency projects set to be commissioned on Thursday, July 19, by Senator Dino Melaye.
The buildings are among sixty nine the senator had arranged for inauguration as part of his three year stewardship in Kogi west senatorial district.
