Oba of Benin urges National Assembly to embrace peace

By Gabriel Enogholase

BENIN—THE Oba of Benin, Omo N’ Oba Ewuare II, has urged members of the National Assembly to embrace peace and  focus on the development of the country as contained in their respective political party manifestos.

Oba Ewuare II gave the charge yesterday in Benin City, while receiving Sen. Rabiu Kwankwanso, a presidential aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  who visited him in his palace to ask for his blessing.

He expressed concern over the situation in the National Assembly and tasked the lawmakers to allow peace to reign.

The Benin monarch also tasked the lawmakers to ensure that poor people were properly taken care of and to be security conscious, as it  was part of the development of the country.

He said: “When there are issues of insecurity and hunger, meaningful development cannot take place.  We don’t have to fragment the country. We must do our best to keep the country united.

“The high level of unprecedented insecurity in the country is something to worry about. In the absence of peace and security, there is nothing anyone can do.  We are not happy to see what is happening in the Senate, the House of Representatives and some state Houses of Assembly.”

He however, thanked Sen Kwankwanso for making out time to visit the palace.
