There was on Tuesday, September 18, immense pressure mounting on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos to abandon the governorship contest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following increasing differences between him and grassroot members of the ruling party.

The development was an offshoot of attempts to avoid what was described as imminent defeat at the primaries.
Vanguard reported that Ambode was met by some party leaders to withdraw from the race given the increasing odds facing his re-election ambition.
The pressure on the governor increased after another failed attempt at getting the support of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the APC was recorded.
Ambode was one of the attendees at the APC rally in Osogbo, Osun state capital on Tuesday ahead of the forthcoming governorship polls.

The governor’s hope for a revival of his second term bid was said to be deliberated upon between party chieftains and President Muhammadu Buhari in the capital.
Earlier, NAIJ.com had previously reported that the confusion over the re-election bid of Ambode allegedly failed to clear off on Saturday, September 15 as the APC national leadership could not secure a firm commitment from Tinubu on the governor’s second term ambition.
NAIJ.com gathered that the APC leaders, led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the party’s national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, who were said to be acting on the directives of President Muhammadu Buhari, met with Tinubu again to prevail on him to “forgive” Ambode over his alleged infractions and back the governor to secure a second term.
