- Salawu said that the imposition of candidates would affect ADC negatively during 2019 general elections
A House of Representatives aspirant under the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo state, Ige Salawu, has dumped the party for African Democratic Party (ADP) ahead of 2019 general elections.
Legit.ng regional reporter in Oyo state, Imran Khalid, reports that Salawu's decision to leave ADC followed the issuance of automatic ticket and certificate of return by the National Working Committee of the party to the incumbent, Abiodun Olasupo, who represents Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola federal constituency.
While giving reasons for his defection to ADP at the ward meeting held in Ilua, ward 8b, Kajola local government area of the state, Salawu said that ADC's mode of operation was premised on impunity, imposition and lack of strict adherence to the electoral act, party and Nigerian constitutions respectively.

He said the party had failed to conduct opinion poll with a view to ascertaining the popularity, acceptability and legitimacy of Olasupo before the automatic ticket and certificate of return were issued to him.
Salawu added that the party had subjected to imposition and lawlessness that would undermine it and its candidates during the 2019 general elections.
Speaking on the zoning arrangement, Salawu said the current occupant of the seat is from Iseyin but under zoning arrangement it is not ideal for the local government to retain it, adding that the ticket should have be given to Kajola because nobody in Iwajowa was aspiring for the exalted position under ADC platform.
In his submission, ward 08 chairman, Abiodun Babaisale commended Salawu for his uprightness and total adherence to democratic tenets as he wished him well in life and prayed for actualization of ambition under the platform of ADP.
A chieftain of ADC in ward 8b also toed the lines of the former speakers but rendered a piece of advice to Ige not to have defected to ADP, adding that if party eventually wins at the state level, juicy positions would be allocated to all those who aspired, obtained forms but were not considered.
