The speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke, has said a sacked lawmaker, Idongesit Ituen, who represented the Itu state constituency is not welcomed in the assembly in accordance to a court judgment.
Luke made the statement after he received the court judgment that sacked the state lawmaker who defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Premium Times reports.

“The speaker of the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Onofiok Luke, was this morning served with an enrolled order conveying the judgement of the Federal High Court of Nigeria restraining him from further recognising Hon. Idongesit Ituen as a member of the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly,” the spokesperson for Luke, Kufre Okon, said in a statement on Thursday, November 15.
“Being a declarative judgement, the Honourable Speaker wishes therefore, to state clearly that as a law abiding citizen, a lawmaker and a lawyer, he has abided by the court order.”
The statement noted that going by the judgment of the court, the sacked lawmaker had ceased to be a member of the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly.

Legit.ng had reported that Idongesit Ituen, a lawmaker in Akwa Ibom state who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been sacked by the Federal High Court in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
The court order followed a suit filed by one Ituen, seeking for a declaration that having defected from the PDP to the APC before the expiration of the tenure of four years for which he was elected to serve, Idongesit Ntuen had lost his seat in the Akwa Ibom state Assembly.
Consequently, the court ruled that Idongesit Ituen should vacate the Itu state constituency seat in the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly immediately.
