Withdraw from election duty -Shehu Sani tell Nigerian lecturers

Shehu Sani, senator representing Kaduna central, has advised university lecturers to pull out from election duty.
Reacting to a statement by Attahiru Jega, former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), that some lecturers conspired politicians in Kano state during the general election, Sani asked lecturers to withdraw from elections and “protect the moral sanctity of the academia”.
“The politicians, through crooked means, got alliances with lecturers in the university to compromise the system and they perpetrated all sort of irregularities, which pave way for a faulty process for the continued entrenchment of bad people in governance,”Jega had said.
In a tweet on Friday, Sani said in view of Jega’s revelation, lecturers should stop participating in  election exercise to protect the moral sanctity of the academia which should not be “smeared with political feaces.”

“In the light of the new revelations, University lecturers should pull out from participating in the conduct of national elections to save the reputation & protect the moral sanctity of the academia.
“The ivory tower shouldn’t be smeared with political feaces.”
The idea of using lecturers as returning officers started under the tenure of Jega.
A former vice-chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan appointed him INEC chairman in 2010.
