Notable with Ize’s pieces is the fact that he uses local Nigerian fabric, aso-oke, to create magic. The young man infuses the ancient technique of cloth weaving and makes it modern.

According to CNN Style, he said: “As a younger brand and as a millennial, I am in the space to do more things ... and not have anybody (telling me) how to do it.”

“The actual beauty people can see in the work is (because) we have freedom to create what we want to create. And the whole point for me is about being really real.”

Speaking with CNN Style, Ize explained that the craft of weavers are highly respected and that families even pass down these unique weaving to their kin as heirlooms.

The young designer also explained that his goal is to make weaving part of the African school curriculum. Ize also added that he has a site in Ilorin and would like people to come to Nigeria to learn something.

Kenneth said: “The goal now is to actually bring weaving into the Nigerian school curriculum,” he said.

“But we also want to train adults, so we are building a site in Ilorin, as I want people to be able to come to my home country and learn something.”
