Nigeria's U23 national team got their U23 Africa Cup of Nations championship off to a losing note following their 1-0 defeat to Ivory Coast Al Salam Stadium in Cairo.

Silas Gnaka scored the only goal that handed Soualiho Haidara's side their first victory at the tournament through a spot kick in the 71st minute.

Cristian Kouame won the penalty for his team after being tripped by Dream Team defender Olisa Ndah, who was sent off the pitch for picking a second yellow of the game.

The Nigerian contingent got the game off to a bright start but were unable to convert all the chances created during regulation period.

But it was the visitors who had the first chance but goalkeeper Adamu Abubakar stopped the effort from crossing the line.

Having ended the first half without finding the back of the net, Nigeria's coach made a couple of changes with Sunday Faleye and Valentine Ozornwafor coming on for Bright Enobakhare and Orji Okonkwo in the second half.

Imama Amapakabo's men continued their struggles in all competition having crashed out of WAFU tournament, while failing to qualify for CHAN competition next year.

Despite recording over ten shots all through the game, and two went on target, they were still unable find the back of the net.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Chelsea moved to second place position on the Premier League standings after beating visiting Crystal Palace 2-0 on Saturday, November 9, at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues were fantastic in this encounter with the likes of N'Golo Kante, Willian and Christian Pulisic providing superb performance.
