Gerard Pique, Barcelona defender, has opened the lids on his Premier League career with the Spaniard saying his short spell at Manchester United responsible for his success as a player.
The World Cup winning star joined the English side as a 17-year-old youngster from Barcelona academy in 2004.
But his Man United dream was prematurely aborted with a switch back to Barcelona four years later.
Pique, a stellar star of his generation, made only thirteen appearances in Red Devils shirt where he enjoyed the privilege of being coached by legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.
He played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayney Rooney before sealing a switch to his home country in 2008.
Swinging the pendulum back on his career, the 32-year-old Spanish defender disclosed that his career development was shaped by his short stint at Man United.
"I grew up a lot there. I am who I am because of the period I had at Manchester United, even though I didn’t play as much as I wanted to," the Spanish defender said.
“But in my position there were two centre-backs who were among the top three in the world at the time [Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic].
"But being at home, and having the career I have had at home, has been a great pleasure and I am very proud of it," Pique noted.
Pique will be remembered as one of his generation's most decorated players having won 28 domestic title with Barcelona including eight La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues.
Before hanging boots on his international career with 102 caps, the towering defender won World Cup and European Championship with Spain.
