- Musa Wada, the candidate of the PDP in the Kogi governorship election faults the results of the poll released so far
- Wada alleges that the results are doctored to favour Governor Yahaya Bello of the APC
- The PDP candidate accuses the APC of massively rigging the election in Kogi central where the governor came
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Kogi governorship election, Musa Wada, has rejected results so far released by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the election.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Wada on Sunday, November 17, alleged that the results so far released were doctored to favour Governor Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
He accused the APC of massively rigging the election in Kogi central where the governor came from as well as other areas of the state.
“The result is not a true reflection of what happened. The people of the state voted for PDP but APC changed the result to favour them.
“Results decleard so far by INEC are written results and we can’t accept that. Every single result was changed and we are going to challenge the result.
The election is not true reflection of what happened in the field,” Wada said.
The PDP governorship candidate promised to challenge the results at the tribunal.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room has called for the total cancellation of Kogi state election.
This followed alleged vote-buying and high level of violence which were reportedly recorded in the election.
According to The Situation Room in a statement sighted by Legit.ng, the Kogi election represents a major dent to Nigeria’s democracy.
The Situation Room is a coalition of prominent civic groups and one of the accredited observers for the election.
In a related report, another election observer group, the Centre for Transparency Advocacy (CTA) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel Saturday's governorship election in Kogi state.
The group made the call hours after a civil society organisation, YIAGA AFRICA, alleged that the credibility of Kogi elections has been compromised by political parties and security agencies and as a result called for the cancellation of the polls.
