Lionel Messi is arguably that best footballer in the world considering his achievements in football since he started his career at the Camp Nou.

Messi is a one-man team as he has never played for any other club before in his career except Barcelona where he has won five Ballon d'Or awards.

He has won all major trophies at Barcelona, but Lionel Messi has failed to turn his success at club side to the national team

Recently, the 32-year-old had a bust-up with Edinson Cavani while playing for Argentina against Uruguay in which the PSG star offered the Argentine a fight which he agreed.

However, this is not the first time Lionel Messi has been involved in a controversy on the pitch as we take a look at five other incidents.

1. Telling Tite to shut up

Lionel Messi had an argument with Brazil coach during international friendly with Argentina in which the Barcelona star told Tite to shut up.

Argentina won the encounter 1-0 in which Lionel Messi scored the winner.

2. Rant after 2019 Copa America exit

After Argentina were sent out of the 2019 Copa America, Lionel Messi was furious about the officiating of the championship and blasted the authorities in charge before he was banned.

3. Fight with Gary Medel and red card

Lionel Messi also had a bust-up with Chile international Gary Medel during the Copa America match between Argentina vs Chile and the two players were red-carded by the referee.

4. Shoving away Ivan Strinic’s leg

Argentina played Croatia in the 2018 World Cup group stages and they were beaten 3-0 in what was a tough encounter.

Messi was involved in a bust-up with defender Ivan Strinic angrily pushing away his opponent’s leg after coming together.

5. Sent off on Argentina debut

Lionel Messi made his international debut for Argentina when he has 18, and he was red-carded 15 minutes after coming in as a substitute.

Messi swigged his arm back towards Vilmos Vanczak while trying to shake off the defender and the referee sent him out.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Lionel Messi made a striking confession after revealing he does not want a life contract at Camp Nou despite his desire to remain at Barcelona.

The 32-year-old's future at the club remains uncertain when club President Josep Bartomeu revealed that their captain has a clause in his contract which enables him to leave at the end of the season.
